According to the Hindu calendar, Rangbhari Ekadashi is celebrated on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month, which is also known as Amalaki Ekadashi. Among all the Ekadashis that come in the year, this is the only Ekadashi which is also related to Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. On this day, special worship of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati is done in Varanasi, the city of Kashi Vishwanath. According to mythological beliefs, on this day Baba Vishwanath came to Kashi for the first time after performing Gauna of Mata Gaura, then he was welcomed here with colors and gulal. This is the reason why Gauna of Baba Vishwanath and Mata Gaura is performed on the day of Rangbhari Ekadashi in Kashi Vishwanath. Along with this, this festival is celebrated with great pomp.
